Oak Sideboard or Room Divider Signed Studio by Doubinsky Fréres, France, 1971

About the Item

Sculptural and dimensional sideboard or room divider in hand carved tiger oak, black lacquered wood, and smoked mirror made and designed by Studio Doubinsky Fréres in 1971. This unit is edition 1 of 2 that were made, and it comprises three main wooden sections that are finished on both sides and supported in the middle on a rectangular black lacquered platform base. There are two free-floating cabinets that are secured onto each side of the center octagonal structure. The front of the octagonal portion showcases eight protruding triangular segments that alternate in oak bordered smoked mirror and beautifully carved oak reliefs of varying female forms and geometric shapes. The back of the octagonal cabinet displays a sunburst of eight protruding triangular smoked mirror segments that match the front. Both side cabinets have two angular doors on the front side that also display carved oak reliefs of feminine and geometric forms and that open to reveal an ebonized wood interior. The back sides are inverted triangular in shape and finished in black gloss lacquer. Original label on the interior of one of the cabinets.
