Very Rare and Fine Edwardian Display Case by ‘Edwards and Roberts’ London
About the Item
A rare and very fine Edwardian mahogany display case by 'Edward and Roberts'. Inlaid with intricate floral marquetry throughout depicting swags, garlands, flowerheads and trailing bell flowers. The moulded stepped broken swan neck pediment raised over upper section with concave sides and single glazed glass panels, centred single door with brass escutcheon opening to lined three shelved interior. The mirror backed lower section with turned supports above single long drawer with brass pulls and escutcheon above a two door cupboard flanked with tapering straight legs joined with concave stretcher terminating on spade foot.
Edward and Roberts were founded in 1845 and had premises at 21 Wardour Street London. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers working in a variety of styles, both modern and revivalist. Edward and Roberts specialized in marquetry, inlay and ormolu.
