18th Century Italian Curvy Serpentine Chest with Exceptional Marquetry and Inlay

About the Item

An Italian serpentine commode with exquisite marquetry and inlay designs from the 18th century. This antique chest from Italy, with curvy serpentine top and body, features a stunningly rhythmic design of marquetry and inlays adorning the drawer fronts, with panel shaped inlay at each side, and top that is decorated in banding about the edges and an eye-catching star prominent at center. The case houses three abundantly-sized, dove-tailed drawers, fitted with a pair of ornate ormolu hardware pulls and matching escutcheons set at center. The commode is presented upon low profile, bun-style feet. This piece is comprised primarily of oak and chestnut woods, with burl inlay and black accents along the top and bottom trim. The wood has a warm, rich patina, a reflection of it's history and prior use. This 18th century Italian commode will make a superb storage piece, adding an air of opulence to a room or entry foyer.
