18th Century Queen Anne Highboy

About the Item

Hand-crafted Queen Anne highboy, circa 1720s. New England. The chest consists of 2 sections made from a lovely combination of cherry and walnut wood. The upper half has 5 full length drawers, while the lower half has 3 small drawers. Each is equipped with brass pulls. The upper drawers have keyhole plates. We love the harmony of the upper chest's smooth, straight lines and the lower section's curved forms, particularly the shaped skirt and cabriole legs. The interior of the upper drawers are newly lined with wallcovering from Brunschwig & Fils. Overall dimensions: Height: 65.5 in. Widest (leg edge to leg edge): 40 in. Deepest (leg edge to leg edge): 21.5 in. Dimensions of upper section: Width at cornice: 36 in. Depth at cornice: 18.25 in. Width of chest: 34.25 in. Depth of chest: 17 in. Dimensions of lower section: Width of chest: 38.5 in. Depth of chest: 18.75 in. Condition notes: In very good condition. Surface wear includes scuffs , dents, and chipped edges that have rounded over the centuries - all consistent with the highboy's age and use. Splitting to wood in the interior of the small middle drawer.
