French 19th Century Transitional St. Kingwood, Mahogany and Marble Commode

About the Item

A stunning French 19th century Transitional st. kingwood, mahogany, ormolu and Brèche d'Alep marble, four drawer commode. The chest is raised by handsome cabriole legs with fitted foliate ormolu sabots. The scalloped shaped frieze is centered by a fine scrolled foliate pierced ormolu mount, with a richly chased acanthus leaf. The three drawers are Sans Traverse, without cross bar, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship. Each drawer displays a fine foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheon and richly chased berried laurel pulls, in a satin and burnished finish. A striking quarter veneer design extends across each drawer with a lovely inlaid mahogany fillet. The top drawer displays a most impressive foliate and diamond shaped ormolu band with foliate, fluted, scrolled ormolu corner mounts to each side. Above is the striking original Brèche d'Alep marble marble top with a fine double mottled border.
