George III / Chippendale Oak Chest of Drawers

About the Item

George III / Chippendale Oak Chest of Drawers. Quarter sawn oak, cross banding with canted corners. Very original condition. Retains the original brasses, steel locks and bracket feet. Old dry leather looking patina. Some shrinkage of the drawers, but all working fine. Tight feet and back boards. Shrinkage to the drawer bottoms.

    Repaired: Repairs to the underside of the top. This was a fix to reinforce a shrinkage area to the two board solid top. Professionally done, secure. Replacements made: Some small cock beading around the drawer edges replaced over the years. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Very original condition with an aged patina. The old oxidized color appears more like a walnut than oak. The quarter sawn figure of the wood grain and the cross banded drawer fronts and top elevate the details on this simple chest.
