Georgian Mahogany Chest on Chest
About the Item
A very fine Georgian chest on chest in figured bookmatched flame mahogany having two short over four long drawers in top section and three drawers in the lower section, with the top drawer of the lower section opening via machined brass arch hinges to reveal a well-appointed secretaire escritoire desk featuring a charming shaped felt insert on the writing surface, cross banded drawers and satinwood patera inlaid doors. Other features include overhanging cornice with dentil molding and blind fretwork carving, stop fluted corner columns and fretwork, stepped plinth over lower section and ogee bracket feet. Yorkshire, probably Leeds, circa 1760. Provenance: previously sold by the noted London dealer Apter Fredericks.
