Louis XV Period Serpentine Commode in Walnut, France ca. 1750

About the Item

A fine Walnut Commode of serpentine form. Originating in the Provence region of France, and dating from the Louis XV period. Notable for its pierced apron and deep carved designs, and for retaining its original striated marble top. The body with two sliding drawers, featuring central cabochon designs with radiating grapevines & flanking rocaille motifs. The drawers below the original serpentine marble top, a rich striated composition of grey, blue, green, & white. The commode rests atop a shaped apron, featuring pierced rocaille designs and deep carving throughout, mounted atop four cabriole legs of graceful form, each capped by bell-flower designs on the knee.
