19th Century Painted Tuscan Credenza / Cabinet

About the Item

Credenza hand-crafted in Italy in the early 1800s using pine and pegged construction. The credenza shows a two over two composition with two drawers over two doors. The fronts of both drawers and doors are flat, composed by an inset panel framed by molding. Overall the whole piece is very linear and simple, pretty typical of Italian and Tuscan rustic/country furniture. The only curves are present in bun feet (one of which has been repaired - pictures). The top is made with a single board with a straight edge and chamfered corners, matching the corners of the case. The sides, just like the front, are simple and made with inset panels framed by molding. The back shows four chamfered boards inset in panels pegged to the rest of the case. This is a very cute and well-built piece, that brings together simplicity, style and comfort. The simple lines, the beautiful overall proportions and the absolutely gorgeous light blue color make it a timeless piece that will fit well in many homes, while providing plenty of storage space in a small footprint, and a splash of color .... we all need some color in our life!

  • 18th Century Bleached Walnut Italian Credenza, Buffet, Sideboard
    Located in Carmine, TX
Walnut credenza handcrafted in Italy in the mid 1700s and bleached recently. Don't let its delicate overall appearance fool you because, as my lower back can attest, this baby is heavy. This is a beautiful credenza that follow the typical italian style with slanted sides, which create small triangular storage spaces on either sides of the two main front doors and drawer. Overall the credenza is very straight in lines. The drawers have flat overlay fronts, and the doors show chamfered panels with a raised carving and are framed by flat molding. The carving and molding help giving the piece some depth and decoration. The bleaching process also provided the credenza with additional warmth, depth and decoration, by bringing out the beautiful grain and underlying colors of the wood. The top of the credenza is composed of boards with ogee edge nailed to the main case. On the inside the credenza is very spacious, providing plenty of storage space. Overall this is a beautiful piece that has lived a long life, and has received some help in "hanging in there" over the years. This is a piece that will fit well with both modern and...

The buffet features 3 drawers over three doors, all decorated with beautiful carving and raised panels throughout. The buffet is still sitting on its original carved feet and shows a scalloped and carved apron, and is finished with simple, original hardware. This piece was hand-selected because of its beautiful proportions, carvings and overall color. The bleaching process shows much of the natural grain of the wood but it also highlights the human-made carvings, creating a beautiful combination of natural and human designs...
