About the Item
A journey through the ancient history of earth, to search the origin of earth’s
surface creation. Most of the oceanic crust is made up of an incredibly resistant
volcanic rock: basalt. This rock is generated by the rapid cooling of the lava flows,
basalt is often visible in its columnar conformation, examples are visible all over the
world, spectacular formations with an artificial appearance. Basalto is a collection
of containers inspired by the sculptural ability of nature itself, it consists of two
monolithic cabinets with unique shapes.
All cabinets are available in two different finishes.
The matt lacquered version enanches the monolithic
aspect of the furniture. The aniline finish version
highlights the natural grain of the wood.
Un viaggio attraverso l’antica storia della terra, alla ricerca dell’origine stessa della
creazione della superficie terrestre. Gran parte della crosta oceanica è costituita da
una roccia vulcanica incredibilmente resistente: il basalto. Questa roccia si genera grazie
al rapido raffreddamento delle colate laviche, il basalto è spesso visibile nelle sua
conformazione colonnare, ve ne sono esempi in tutto il mondo, formazioni spettacolari
dall’aspetto artificiale. Basalto è una collezione di contenitori ispirata all’abilità
scultorea della natura, essa si compone di due cabinet monolitici dalle forme uniche.
Mobili contenitori disponibili in due finiture differenti.
La versione in laccato semilucido, accentua l’effetto monolitico dell’oggetto. La versione con il legno colorato
all’anilina e verniciato trasparente, lascia trasparire la naturale venatura del legno.

Medulum
An ancient river flowing in the green countryside of the Veneto hinterland, between emerged lands and swamps that have now disappeared. Medulum, one of the favourite waterways of the Venetian aristocracy of old, indispensable for reaching their country homes.
This is where our work draws its inspiration. We combine the experience of 40 years with innovative solutions, collaborating with architect and designer studios in the search and experimentation of new languages, through the craftsmanship of artisanal productions.
Medulum has been designing and making furniture and accessories by searching for and experimenting with new languages, collaborating with architects and designers, with the craftsmanship typical of artisanal productions.
The very name of the brand is both a reference and a tribute to the area: Medulum is the Latin name for the river that was the Venetian nobility’s preferred way to travel to their summer residences from Venice. And it is the landscape of the Lagoon that provides the backdrop for company owner Diego Zanchettin’s daily journey to Medulum’s headquarters.
