Maitland Smith Style Post-Modern Mactan Tessellated Stone Orb Pedestal Credenza
About the Item
Mactan tessellated stone buffet / credenza designed in the style of Maitland-Smith; attributed to Magnussen Ponte. The five massive, smooth, tessellated stone orbs that sit atop the coral, feature exotically marbled earth tone veins. The orbs act as pedestals that support a large glass top shaped in the mirrored outline of the credenza. The post-modern design is perfectly complimented and contrasted by the organic fractured facade. The exposed fractured facades add another dimension of both texture and heft. Four, thick hinged doors open to reveal two large cabinet spaces with a fixed shelf in each section. Although this piece looks heavy and monumental, the Mactan stone material is actually relatively light weight and easy to move. Mactan stone is mined in the South Philippines on the island of Mactan. It is a sedimentary conglomerate of shale and coral and has a naturally chalky feel.
