Antique 19th Century Solid Stripped Oak German Two-Door Hanging Cupboard

About the Item

This beautiful detailed hanging cabinet or cupboard was made in western Germany in the early 19th century, circa 1820. It was completely made in the finest quality European quarter-sawn summer oak. The detail and craftsmanship are visible throughout the whole piece. The cabinet features two paneled doors under an arched mold with slanted paneled corners and sides. The brass hinges, lock, key, and suspension brackets are all authentic to the piece. The cupboard stems from an era and region in Germany, more specifically NortRein Westphalen, where oak furniture was seen as a luxury and therefore subject to tax. Many pieces were painted in faux pine to avoid the tax. The cupboard was gently stripped from old paint layers and the bottom and bottom mold were replaced with period oak replacement parts in our atelier. Also, an interior shelf was added to the piece. The cupboard is now solid, clean, and ready for use.
