19th Century Flat Desk with Two Pull-Out Extensions in Louis XVI Style

About the Item

We present you this exceptional, large and opulent marquetry desk from the late 19th century. Crafted with exceptional skill by a Parisian cabinetmaker in Faubourg Saint Antoine, this desk is a prime example of Louis XVI-style furniture, made from mahogany and dating back to the Napoleon III period. It is not just a piece of furniture but a true ministerial-sized work desk, measuring 160 cm with 2 pull-out extensions of 50 cm each for extra workspace. The desk is supported by four fluted legs, each decorated with gilded bronze asparagus tips at the bottom. Its sides are embellished with rich gilded bronze friezes with intricate egg-and-dart motifs and encircled by heart-shaped patterns. It opens with three drawers on the front side and three faux drawers on the visitor's side. What's particularly striking is the desk's covering – a stunning tawny leather meticulously adorned with a gold leaf vignette, elegantly pressed by our skilled leatherworker. This elegant design is further enhanced by four decorative spandrels and a central motif. The pull-out extensions are equipped with well-preserved red felt lining, which can be colour-coordinated with the desk's leather surface, adding to its overall allure. This exquisitely crafted desk can serve as both a decorative centerpiece for a professional setting or a highly functional work or study space.
