English Campaign Era Writing Box of Brass-Bound Mahogany

About the Item

A fine English military officer's writing slope (or Captain's box) of brass-bound mahogany, from the Campaign Era, featuring a two-section hinged interior that opens to become a writing desk, with compartments for inkwells, writing pens, and document/stationery storage. The top with decorative brass plate, the front featuring a brass escutcheon of similar design. The interior showing a cordovan red embossed leather writing slope. Side drawer with flush brass handle. Includes two inkwells with brass lids. Dimensions: Height 6 1/2 inches Width 20 inches Depth (with box closed) 11 inches Depth (with box opened) 22 inches.
