French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Ladies Writing Desk Marquetry Inlay
About the Item
French Louis XVI style fall front serpentine lady's writing desk in rosewood with elaborate marquetry inlay in boxwood and satinwood. This diminutive, bombay, elegant writing desk has delicate cabriole legs with ormolu mounts and a brass gallery to the top surface. When the bombay fall front is opened, a baize lined writing surface is revealed, along with a hidden compartment that slides open to reveal a place for storage of papers and paraphernalia . Small drawers above the writing surface provide additional storage space. This desk is finished on all sides so it can free stand in a room. Although small in size (25 1/2 inches wide), it has a large visual impact with serpentine skirt and an elegantly shaped fall front supported by delicate cabriole ormolu mounted legs. Late 19th Century.
