ABOUT A mid-century Brutalist, mosaic Walnut nine drawer dresser with six large drawers and middle cabinets with three additional drawers for plenty of organization and storage. The bold, carved front is sure to make a statement in any room. CREATOR Lane Furniture Company, Altavista, Virginia. DATE OF MANUFACTURE c.1970-1979. MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES Walnut, Walnut veneer. Dovetail joinery. CONDITION Good. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor wear denoted in photos. One drawer divider support is partially broken. The other drawer divider supports are missing. DIMENSIONS H 30.25 in. W 78.25 in. D 19.5 in., Inside Cabinet Drawer dimensions: H 5.5 in. W 20 in. D 13 in., Six Drawer Dimensions: H 7 in. W 22.5 in. D 14.5 in. HISTORY The brutalist design was born among the debris of World War II. For a while, it was a matter of survival – to rapidly rebuild cities, to provide affordable homes for families assaulted by poverty. Then, the pioneers of brutalist architecture started to design more tempered brutalist buildings, made of raw concrete, that would become beloved with A-List examples.
