Chinoiserie Gilt Lacquer Table Secretaire

About the Item

This charming tabletop secretaire is decorated in gold and black in the Chinoiserie style. The exterior is finished with black lacquer and painted with scenic mountain landscapes, brushed with gilt pigments atop low relief elements. At the base is a large drawer with a scalloped front and two drop handles. The slanted fall-back top opens to reveal an elegant painted interior with three pigeon holes and five small drawers with sinuous, curved fronts. All drawers are finished with a brown velvet lining. The upper panel lifts to reveal a wide, rectangular mirror, making this secretaire ideal as an unexpected jewelry box. From the collection of Frances and Gary Comer.
