About the Item
Very fine, neoclassical early Biedermeier Secretaire from South Germany around 1820.
Beautiful classicist design with gable cornice, well selected bright cherry veneer on hard and softwood (oak, maple and spruce underwood).
Book-matched veneered and several ebonized parts like the lisenes and top.
Excellent restored condition with shellac hand polish (French polish).
Original brass fittings. 1 original old key and iron locks.
Inside with numerous drawers and secret compartments (see images), mostly veneered in cherry wood.
At the bottom the secretaire has 2 doors and an open space behind with an shelfboard and long massive iron lock.
Fold down writing plate in cherry wood with ebonized decorative lines.
