Dieter Waeckerlin for Behr Sideboard in Teak and Maple with Metal Base

About the Item

Dieter Waeckerlin for Behr, sideboard, teak, metal, maple, Switzerland, 1950s. This distinctive sideboard holds an utterly well-balanced construction embracing a great sense of proportions. The whole design is based on an elongated body executed in teak, offering a variety of different storage possibilities. The front consists of a striking checkered pattern consisting of various wooden patches illustrating different grains, coming from the same tree trunk. This graphical visualization adds a wonderful rhythmic and haptic surface to the front. The interior is made of maple featuring shelves and drawers that can be arranged to your own wishes. The metal frame is simple and understated, where clear, straight lines are allowed to emerge in the design. The texture and warm tones of the teak make sure that the room gets a vibrant and lively ambience. Dieter Waeckerlin is a lesser-known but highly talented interior architect and furniture designer from Switzerland. His talent is apparent from this stunning wardrobe design which the artist created in 1958 for Behr Möbel. Waeckerlin, born in 1930, was an accomplished cabinet maker, interior architect and furniture designer from Switzerland. Most eye-catching are his sideboards for Behr Mobel Germany. Waeckerlin often uses a clean line and tries to capture the essence of functional minimalism in his designs. A fantastic design from a pioneer in minimalist design.     Please note that this item is in good, used condition with wear on the veneer. The top contains a stain. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer.
