Vintage Italian Sideboard, 'circa 1950s'

About the Item

Italian vintage sideboard with drinks cupboard (circa 1950s), possibly by celebrated furniture maker, Vittorio Dassi. This represents iconic design along with a gorgeous marquetry exterior. There are three cupboard spaces with key holes in each. It is incredibly stylish with a majestic presence coupled with a constant proportionality between the cupboard doors. Furthering the appeal, the top surface has in-built black glass protecting the wood. The centre cupboard one finds the sophisticated cocktail drawer with a shelf for tumblers and room for bottles and mixing equipment. The key and lock keep out unwanted minors from sneaking in that vodka pick-me-up before school. The piece is in fair overall condition with age-related nicks, scrapes and blemishes. The overall visual effect however, remains stunning. Please enjoy the many photos for the details. Upon request a video will be provided. About the Artist: The furniture of Vittorio Dassi (1893-1973), made in the '40s and '50s, stands out for the choice of fine woods such as rosewood, cherry wood, ash and walnut, often decorated with inlaid panels and crystal signed by prominent master glassworkers. Elegant in design without losing functional quality, its furnishings are comparable to the refined style of Gio Ponti, to whom Dassi was linked by significant collaborations after replacing his father in the company, Dassi Mobili Moderni, based in Lissone. Among the factory’s most important projects is the creation of the furniture for the rooms of the Hotel Royal in Naples, designed by Ponti in the mid-'50s. This was a period that marked the turning point in Dassi’s practice towards more schematic forms and the employment of teak for the production of modular furniture. • Vittorio Dassi Sideboard Hexagon Glass Shelves La Permanente Mobili Cantu 1950s
By La Permanente Mobili Cantù, Vittorio Dassi
    Located in Camden, ME
A very rare and sophisticated sideboard by Vittorio Dassi stamped Permanente Mobili Cantu Italy from the 1950s consisting of four suspended cabinets, three of which have locking doors, the fourth has drawers with raised hexagonal pulls. Each cabinet has a chamfered top of a beautifully grained Italian walnut shaped in a distinctive diamond cut. This contrasts with more tightly grained fronts and side panels of the cabinets Above each cabinet is set a hexagonal glass shelf resting inset on brass supports detailed in a flat black lacquer and polished brass attached to the ends of tapering flat pillars of Italian walnut. The interiors of three of the four cabinets are finished in an aged off-white glazed birch with adjustable glass shelving. There are ten polished threaded bronze discs that are held in cast bronze hexagonal housings that allow the sideboard to adjust to uneven or stone flooring. The bronze bases are also accented in flat black lacquer. La Permanente Mobili Cantu was considered one of Italy's top cabinet makers and the cabinet work in this sideboard attests to how beautifully they executed their pieces. The metric measurements...
