19th Century Carved Table Vitrine in the Louis XVI Manner by Beurdeley

About the Item

A Tour de Force table Vitrine in the Louis XVI Manner by Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley, of Paris Of free-standing form, constructed in a finely patinated fruit wood, adorned with carving of finest Exhibition quality; rising from tapering, turned and torsade carved legs terminating in capitols a la Grecque issuing carved chain links; the conjoining swept 'X' form stretcher, festooned with remarkably carved 'ropes', having a centrally situated carved Grecian lyre dressed with foliage; the pierced and leaf carved apron has roundels to the centres, and supports the lockable and hinged rising top vitrine, with inserts of bevelled glass and ogee stiff leaf running leaf carvings. Stamped to the underside twice by the maker, 'A. Beurdeley Paris'. Paris, circa 1880.   Literature; Christopher Payne. Constructed in a well-figured Honduras mahogany, with carved highlights; rising from cabriole leg 'ball and claw' feet, with acanthus carving at the knees, with swept and carved corner blocks; over, a running 'egg-and-dart moulding with a central leaf carved cartouche centred about a scallop shell, are two lockable glazed doors, with astragals delineating fifteen panes enclosing a shelved interior; surmounted by a pierced swan neck pediment with paterae teminals set about a turned finial, circa 1910.
