French 19th-20th Century Louis XVI Style Mahogany, Kingwood Parquetry Vitrine

About the Item

A very fine French 19th/20th century Louis XVI style mahogany, kingwood and tulipwood parquetry three-door vitrine with ormolu-mounted floral wreaths, ribbons, female masks and centred with an ormolu basket with flowers amongst foliage. The central panelled door with diamond-shaped tulipwood parquetry enclosing four wooden shelves, the two side glazed doors with mirrored backs and side parquetry panels, all surmounted with floral garland swags, raised on fluted tapered legs ending in leaf cast sabots. In the manner of François Linke (1855-1946). The lock-plate stamped Duvivier/77, St. Antoine/Paris, circa 1900. Locks by Duvivier have been seen on early Linke and Krieger furniture. Duvivier was a locksmith on the same street as Linke's and Zwiener's workshops on the Faubourg St. Antoine. It is also interesting to see that a similar bronze mount like the one on the middle section of this vitrine was also used in a bedroom suite signed by Francois Linke that was sold at Bonhams London on 10th July 2007, lot 126. Measures: Height 59 1/2 inches (151.1 cm) Width 62 3/8 inches (158.4 cm) Depth 16 3/4 inches (42.6 cm).

Display your treasured objects in this beautiful early 20th century French Empire style mahogany vitrine. Beveled glass panels can be found in the case antique’s door and sides, allowing one to view the contents placed inside on its two glass shelves. A mirrored back gives the illusion of a completely transparent cabinet. The vitrine has recently undergone a refinishing, giving the antique a ‘like new’ appearance. The wonderful brass hardware found at the capital and base of the pilaster columns which flank the door has been polished to a brilliant luster - along with the sabots that cap the front feet. Inside, two additional finished mahogany lower shelves can be used to house objects...
