Rare Pair of Napoleon III Mascaron Vitrines in Gilt Bronze
About the Item
A Rare pair of Antique Napoleon III Vitrine Cabinets
This pair of rectangular Napoleon III period vitrines are utterly magnificent. Comprised of gilt bronze, verde marble, and an antique white silk tufted interior, the pair exemplify the opulence that is to be expected of Napoleon III furnishings from the third quarter of the 19th century. Beveled edge glass panels are crowned by giltwood female mascarons at all four corners and flanked by strips of speckled verde marble, capped by acanthus leaves. The entire composition is surmounted on a verde marble base made of two shades of verde. The gilt bronze garlands strung along the top and bottom of the vitrine are just darling, adding a dainty element to the highly ornamented cabinet.
