19th Century French Empire Small Marble-Topped Table
About the Item
This period Empire table was made in France, circa 1815, is crafted from imported mahogany and done in the Antique taste. This small-scale example is made of bookmatched mahogany veneers on a curved triangular base set up on lions paw feet headed by a central volute to the top of each foot. The feet are ebonized to give weight and dimension offsetting the veneered areas. The thin apron is also contrasted with an ebonized band at the bottom dividing the plains of the base and top section. The table is topped with a dished Saint Helena fossilized marble top. The piece has concealed casters under the feet and retains a nice old finish. Of note, the table bares old Sotheby's intake labels to the underside.Condition Disclosure:
