Art Deco Rene Prou & Rene Drouet Wrought Iron Centre Table

About the Item

A magnificent period French Art Deco stone top wrought iron occasional table from the early/mid 20th century. Having a circular stone top, rising on elaborate scrolling bombe form wrought iron frieze, three legs and stretcher. In the original distressed painted green finish with gold gilded enrichment, embellished with gilt rings and finial. Circa 1930s Wonderfully over exaggerated curves, captivating lines created by fanciful scrollwork, combine with rich, rustic elegantly aged patina. The design derives from the oeuvre of Rene Prou and Rene Drouet both of whom employed these decorative scrolling motifs to their iron furniture. Provenance: From the Snaffle Bit Ranch estate of David Dewhurst (b.1945), who entered public service in 1998 when he was elected Texas Land Commissioner. He later served as 41st Lieutenant Governor of Texas from 2003-2015. Dimensions (approx): 22" High, 29.5" Diameter.
