English Walnut Center Table
About the Item
This center table is four sided and has a shaped molded top crossbanded with walnut and boxwood stringing. There is a central inlaid panel with an inlaid image of Poseiden standing in an incised mother-of-pearl shell. The inlaid images of clouds, thunderbolts, and dragons are composed using a sharp incision tool and the incised lines are enhanced by the use of black ink. The lightning bolts, his crown, and trident are all inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The top is profusely inlaid with winged masks, gargoyles, and floral arabesques. The apron and drawer have numerous inlaid rectangular motifs. The legs have a shallow recessed panel with carved bellflowers and terminate in spade feet. The hardware is original.
