Tessellated Stone Cloverleaf Shaped Center Table

This remarkable and magnificent salon center table is designed in the Empire style, which flourished when Napoleon I was Emperor of France (1804-1814). The style was a phase of neoclassicism, which drew heavily on the art of Imperial Rome and ancient Egypt. It was characterized by its grand classically-inspired motifs, such as sphinxes, busts, laurel and palm leaves, and cornucopias. The table features a circular top, which has been beautifully inlaid with sliced amethyst and edged with gilt bronze (ormolu).
