Giovanni Offredi 'Paracarro' coffee table for Saporiti, Italy 1973

About the Item

Giovanni Offredi (1927-2007) was a prominent figure in the Italian furniture and designer scene. Opposed to other Italian designers of his time he found his way into design outside of conventional formal education within architecture. He went on to formalise a partnership with the furniture maker Saporiti in 1970, where he made some of his most prominent furniture designs, including the Paracarro table. The Paracarro coffee table is formed of a chrome plated steel cross neatly placed into the dome of the concrete base supporting the glass tabletop. The materiality of this table is intertwined with brutalism, connecting heavy elements together to make something that is light to the eye. The base is in good condition, with some light wear to the concrete. The glass has some light scratches and marks from past use and can be replaced upon request.
