About the Item
Introducing a newly restored coffee table attributed to the incomparable Adrian Pearsall in the late 1950's and crafted by Craft Associates in the early 1960's. Featuring a base made from solid oak with extraordinary woodgrains this table is the epitome of American Mid-Century Modern Design. The glass top is newly cut to the original diameter and shows no wear whatsoever - It's as if this gorgeous piece has just left the factory 60+ years ago!
Born in 1925 Adrian Pearsall began designing and building furniture in 1952 with his company named 'Craft Associates' which started first in his home shop and grew to a company with more than 650 craftsmen and employees. Pearsall’s work not only helped define Mid-Century Modern but also the idea that function does not have to be sacrificed for beauty. With most furniture before the mid-century being highly ornate and lacking in utilitarian use, his work was a much welcomed change. Clean lines, organic shapes, and black American walnut wood are just a few elements often found in Pearsall’s furniture and all are on display with this magnificent brutalist sofa.

This now iconic coffee table attributed to Adrian Pearsall has recently undergone a complete restoration process and we love the results! The solid oak base has been hand-sanded and refinished bringing the stunning woodgrains back to their original luster and showing only minor scratches as seen in the detail photos provided.
The glass, cut to the original diameter, is in brand new, never-used condition and shows no signs of wear whatsoever.
This archetypal coffee table is functional, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration. Adrian Pearsall
Adrian Pearsall designed some of the most exuberant and expressive American furniture of the 1950s and ’60s. For verve and vivacity of form, he surpasses even Vladimir Kagan — whose work is the emblem of swinging, sexy mid-20th century modernism. Pearsall gave his imagination free rein, and his flamboyant, eye-catching styles are icons of what has become known as “Atomic Age” design.
Pearsall studied architectural engineering at the University of Illinois before opening his Pennsylvania furniture company, Craft Associates, in 1952, and that training shows in many designs. A Pearsall trademark, for example, is a lounge chair with an exceptionally tall, trapezoidal back, which give the pieces a skyscraper-like silhouette. Pearsall also had a talent for so-called Gondola sofas — long, low-slung pieces with upswept ends. Many of Pearsall’s sofas and chairs are supported not by legs, but on gently arced walnut skids.
Pearsall also had a gift for tables, in particular glass-topped side tables and coffee tables with frames that have the look of an Alexander Calder stabile. As you will see from the offerings on 1stDibs, Adrian Pearsall had flair, and his work adds an attention-getting, sculptural exclamation point to any décor.
