Junzo Sakakura & Daisaku Cho, Table for Tendo Mokko, 1970s

About the Item

Table designed by Junzo Sakakura Architecture Institute Daisaku Cho and manufactured by Tendo Mokko. Teak and plywood. 1970s. At the base of the table legs, pieces of wood is fitted into the plywood using a technique called “adding a piece” forming. This technique is unique to Tendo Mokko, which was one of the first to put molded plywood technique to practical use in Japan. - Daisaku Cho - Born in 1921. Started to work under Junzo Sakakura in 1947. Under Sakakura, he was in charge of the furniture including Teiza Chair that was exhibited at Triennale in Milan. In 1972, established his own studio. Had been busy for the architectural design and therefore he hadn't designed furniture for 20 years. Started to design furniture again in 1990s and designed some kinds of chairs including Bachi chair. Passed away in 2014.
