About the Item

A great example of Scandinavian elegance. This rosewood and glass coffee table by Danish designer Kristian Vedel is a great blend of style, functionality and playful form. The listed item is made of solid rosewood and 8mm / 0.31inch glass with underneath a storage space for magazines or books. The flow of the storage space, the tapered legs and the well carved top, in which the glass rests, are all features of the excellent Danish craftsmanship. The design was produced by Søren Willadsen in Denmark, 1960s. The table is made of solid rosewood, 8mm/ 0.31 inch thick glass in good condition and a black leather magazine rack underneath. The table is in good vintage condition, wooden frame in excellent shape, the glass is intact, no cracks or chips, yet smaller traces of use on the top conform age, as shown on photos. Danish industrial designer Kristian Solmer (1923 -2003) Vedel is celebrated for his contribution to Scandinavian midcentury modernism. Greatly influenced by the Bauhaus aesthetic and (mentor) Kaare Klint’s ergonomic approach, Vedel’s furniture and product designs are a combination of the stylish nordic functionality and a playful use of materials and details. Rosewood is a generic term for different types of mid American rosewood. The wood used in this item is Machaerium scleroxylon - species of Rosewood which do not need additional papers for export, because they are not covered by CITES regulations.
