Pierluigi Giordani: Exceptional Sculptural Oak & Glass Coffee Table, Italy 1950s

About the Item

Pierluigi Giordani (1924-2011) A one of a kind sculptural coffee table by Pierluigi Giordani, and a masterwork of organic abstraction. A biomorphic glass top, inset with delicate brass rivets, floats cloud-like over an asymmetrical blond oak base of rare grace and energy, its elegant gazelle legs transforming into sinuous arms, poised as if to take flight. With sensuous curves and negative spaces suspended in dynamic balance, this is a singular tour de force by the master Bolognese architect and designer, a sought-after contemporary of Carlo Mollino, Gio Ponti, and Ico Parisi who limited his production primarily to private commissions so as not to compromise his avant-garde vision, and refused to replicate on an industrial scale his vividly imagined, radically engineered, and painstakingly handcrafted works. Unique piece. Please note: the glass is clear but appears colored because of the grey background against which it has been photographed. Shown in the final image with a surrealist clock by Pedro Friedeberg, also available at our gallery. Italy, 1950s. Dimensions: 47” L x 25.5” W x 20” H.
