Shale Low Table by Simon Johns

About the Item

The Shale Low Table sits on the floor, and a warm chrome geometric form emerges from one side. This part reflects the light in the room, in a slightly distorted way, and contrasts dramatically with its blackened ash counterpart. The particularity of this piece lies within the textures, one reminiscent of stone, hand carved in solid ash, and the other cool and crisp. The Shale Collection's name was inspired by the cliffs outside Simon Johns' studio, in the Missisquoi Valley in Quebec. Shale is a type of rock formation that tends to split and erode in layers, leaving behind a layered and random composition of textures. The mapping of the composition of this cliff was sketched on to the pieces of the collection, and carved out in layers, with a router and a chisel. Edition of 1
