18th/19th Century Rococo Louis XV Style Console Table

About the Item

A stunning and impressive size Continental (Italian or Swedish, possibly French) carved and painted antique console table. circa 1800 Born in the late 18th to early 19th century, finely hand-crafted, high quality craftsmanship, construction and rich detailing, the European antique Louis XV style, Rococo taste console having a shaped white marble top, above original gray(ish) blue(ish) paint decorated mahogany frame, enhanced by the now stable beautifully aged patina, heavily distressed, chippy paint, craquelure finish. The front and sides having a serpentine shaped gently undulating molded apron, embellished with ornate, highly carved scroll flourish openwork skirt, rising on acanthus carved knee cabriole legs, joined by an X form cross-stretcher with central turned finial, resting on substantial scrolled whorl feet. Dimensions (approx): 37" High, 50" Wide, 21" Deep Great original antique condition. Presents exceptionally well. Beautiful color and patina. The solid wood frame is strong, sturdy, stable and structurally sound. Original, unrestored, old painted finish shows signs of heavy wear and losses, now stabilized to prevent further loss. Overall, wear and tear consistent with age/use. The marble shows signs of wear and signs of past restorations, appearing to have been partially fragmented and repaired, with previous cracks or splits, sealed, numerous stains, discoloration visible.
