Antique Chinese Altar Table, Circa 1850

About the Item

A classic early 19th Century Chinese altar table with a solid two inch thick oak wood plank top and everted ends, displaying a gorgeous patina. An altar table of this scale would have been found in an important temple, presenting an image of Buddha, or in a grand room inside a significant provincial government building. Looking at this table it is easy to imagine the almost two hundred years of respectful and spiritual use that is reflected in it's beauty. It's simple Ming design and clean lines make it perfect piece for a contemporary interior. From the eastern coastal province of Jiangsu, just north of Shanghai. T513.
