Classical Marble Top Pier Table With Stencil Decoration, New York, Circa:1830

About the Item

This Empire mirror backed pier/console table has a beautiful patina. For nearly 200 years it has had pride of place in fashionable New York City homes -- usually between windows as bases for pier mirrors, hence the name pier table. The form and motif of this table were inspired by the artifacts being unearthed from the ancient Greek & Roman world. Now it's ready to take pride of place in your foyer, living room, dining room, or anywhere else that a piece of such beauty is desired. The base is handmade of French-polished flame mahogany bookmatched veneer with ormolu (gilt bronze) mounts and a mirror back. The piece has a bronze powder hand applied stencil border. The marble top facilitates this table's use for flowers or as a server or as a place for the drinks tray. The top appears to be original and American.
