Cut and Fold Console by dAM Atelier

About the Item

Cut and fold console by dAM Atelier One of a kind. Dimensions: L 147 x W 42 x H 80 cm. Materials: Calacatta Viola marble. Cutting and folding means creating a whole new element through the sequence of two simple actions. Starting from a rectangular slab, the cutting action draws new geometries on the plane by separating different areas which, however, always remain partially attached through some appendages. The second action consists in achieving the imaginary bending of a material that is impossible to fold, the stone. The top of the console remains parallel to the ground and still joined to two sets of legs laterally. While these are doubled from the table top until reaching the perpendicularity with it. The result is an object with extreme sinuosity and lightness capable of involving the user for the conceptual strength necessary to fold the non-foldable. dAM atelier is a duo of young Italian architects sharing the passion for design and architecture, Paolo d’Alessandro and MarCo Malgarini. The studies of architecture in Switzerland, at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, have been essential to define the way of thinking and to shape their design vision. It also gave the trainee to work at the different scales that each project requires with the same attitude and accuracy. They conceive design as the elaboration of thoughts in a continuous process of adding and subtracting information, seeking a composition of raw elements that are able to generate a moment of wonder. The result is an aesthetic that is minimalistic, pure and timeless but arouses emotions.

  • Gabetti & Isola Console Table in Black Lacquered Metal and Granite by Arbo 1970s
By Roberto Gabetti and Aimaro Isola, Arbo
    Located in Montecatini Terme, IT
Console table with a base in black lacquered metal and an ovoidal table top in granite, originally designed by Aimaro Oreglia d'Isola and Roberto Gabetti for the residential center Talponia based in Ivrea, and manufactured by Arbo during the 1970s. The activity of the studio of Roberto Gabetti (1925 - 2000) and Aimaro Oreglia d'Isola (1928) began in the fifties of the twentieth century. The Stock Exchange building, built in collaboration with Giorgio and Giuseppe Raineri in 1953, represents the first evidence of the design and layout of each individual part of the building, including furniture and fixed furnishings. The chairs, desks and sofas designed for the Stock Exchange are made by small Turin workshops (in particular the Colli di Torino furniture factory), with wood turned into organic shapes or veneered and polished and connected by open metal parts with a stiffening function, with extraordinary attention to detail. The chair with a "vertebrae" structure, in particular, conceived in 1952 in blackened beech wood, has two visible metal leaf springs...
