Pair of Bleached Antique Dutch Renaissance Style Tables, 19th Century

About the Item

With slightly bulbous bodies, paired with decorative baluster legs and ball feet joined by angular stretchers, this pair of bleached Renaissance style tables from the 1800’s are definitively Dutch. The tables have been bleached at some point, allowing the masterful carvings to gain prominence. The tops, which are hand-carved from pine, have a thin quarter round molding that mirrors the shape of the apron beneath. A large drawer has been carved into the belt, with two scrolled and fleur de lys drop handles and an ovate floret and parted leaf center mount. The drawer is flanked by a pair of carved rectangular panels representing an acanthus leaf on top of diapered background. There are two foliate carvings on each side (including the back), each positioned above a classically themed baluster form leg. The four legs have all been carved in the same manner: with an Ionic volute capital adorned with egg and dart above a ball festooned with interlaced Vitruvian waves filled with roundels and diaper. A ball foot embellished with a thin protruding ring are positioned under the angular double Y-stretcher that has multiple layers of thin molding. In the center of the stretcher is a large ball finial above a multi-tiered star. Our pair of Dutch Renaissance style tables have carvings on all sides, so they can be used in the center of a room. The size and shape also allow them to be used as a pair of console tables, such as in a foyer or living room. They could be displayed as is or paired with nice marble or limestone tops.

  • Antique 19th Century Italian Maiolica Pot of the Renaissance Style
    Located in Dallas, TX
Vivid colors, hand-painted in the Renaissance style, enhance this large maiolica pot from the 1800’s. Maiolica is tin-glazed pottery from Italy that has been decorated over a white background. This pot is considered an istoriato, which is to say that the pot has been decorated with figures, rather than strictly geometric patterns or floral designs. The maiolica does incorporate floral and foliate motifs, with white flowers that have yellow centers surrounded by blue rings. There are also yellow flowers that are depicted in various stages of nyctinasty (the closing of flowers during the night). The flora is all connected by a series of green and yellow curled leaves. Behind the vegetation is a dark blue background. There are two portraits inside large yellow cartouches that are painted in the middle of the pot. The first is a bearded man, dressed in a light brown tunic...
