Rare German Rococo 18th Century Period Console Table with Marble Top

About the Item

A very unusual and superb Rococo console table from the mid-18th century. On four carved legs with an X-shaped stretcher, overall with scrolls and dolphin-like sea creatures. This extravagant console table recalls features of fantastic 18th century grotto furniture. This table was originally partly gilded and white painted, which is preserved in a rather distressed manner. This gives the console a very charming look; the voluptous carving is of superb quality and the original top is made of a wonderful veined marble. The table is a work from a South German master, probably Franconian / Bavarian with comparable examples to be found in Bayreuth, Schloss Seehof.
