About the Item

Spectacular Hammered Wroughtiron Art Deco Console Table, attributed to Edgard Brandt (1880 - 1960) , France 1930's with dark grey marble top It was in 1902 that Edgard Brandt created in Paris, at 76, rue Michel-Ange, the Brandt establishments where, alongside ironwork, he began to produce various light armaments. In 1921, he moved to the corner of rue Erlanger and boulevard Murat2, still in the 16th arrondissement In 1925, he set up his ironwork workshop on rue du Hameau, in the 15th arrondissement. In his light weapons manufacturing establishments, Edgar Brandt founded in 1926 the brand of household appliances Brandt. The gallery owner In the wake of the success of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts of 1925, Edgard Brandt inaugurated his gallery at 27, boulevard Malesherbes on December 10, 1925. On several levels, he exhibited his creations of art metalwork, furniture, decorative objects, sculptures, lighting. He collaborates with the factories Daum and Lalique, Fonderies de Brousseval (Haute-Marne) which publishes its cast iron radiators for central heating). In his gallery are exposed his works and also those of other artists. The Brandt gallery will be the first decorative art gallery in Paris. At the same time, Edgar Brandt opens a second showroom in London and opens a branch "Ferro Brandt" in New York which will be the showcase of the great Art Deco artists in North America. In 1930, Edgar Brandt hosted in December the first exhibition of a group made up of the best animal artists of the moment, Pompon, Édouard-Marcel Sandoz, Paul Jouve, Georges Guyot, and Gaston Suisse. This first exhibition of "animal keepers" at the Brandt gallery was very successful, all of these artists forming what will henceforth be called the "Group of Animal Keepers", will exhibit regularly at the end of each year.
