Tommi Parzinger for Charak Modern Gold Leaf Console, c 1949, Signed

About the Item

A rare early-example collectors item, this fully restored Tommi Parzinger for Charak Modern (c. 1949) console table, which also can function as a small writing table, features beautiful gold leaf and french polish with Parzinger's signature statement handle. Signed with Charak Modern label inside of drawer. This refined and sophisticated Parzinger console table is perfect for those high-end luxury pads where space is limited and you need to make the most of every square foot. While it is less wide than most console tables, the height of 36" helps it stand out as a small yet impactful statement piece. The gorgeous color is close to the Hermès orange, but perhaps a little bit deeper and bolder - perhaps somewhere between Hermès orange and blood orange. Beauty in every detail, from the sensuous lightly splayed legs, the oval supports which make the chest appear to float, and the gold leaf clad front drawer with signature Parzinger handle. Let's not skip one more aspect of this table that is equally important - the collectors appeal. Furniture by Tommi Parzinger is one of the most sought-after and cherished items of sophisticated collectors. This isn't for your typical Eames and George Nelson collector, it is much more for a refined collector, perhaps a connoisseur of fine rarities. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship and design details are something to be admired. Parzinger and Charak Modern designed and crafted some of the highest quality furniture of the early and mid 20th Century. That was at a time when US manufacturing was at its best. And now in this day and age of cheap products not meant to last - this table is your daily reminder that 'they don't make them like they used to.' We restored this incredible console table with gold-leaf and by hand-applying a new French Polish lacquer. French Polish is the most laborious and expensive finish because it requires many repetitive coats and each one hand polished to a fine glass-like finish, and while it is very expensive, it is worth it for rare and valuable pieces like this Tommi Parzinger table. The results are nothing short of spectacular - such a smooth, clear and deep finish - it looks almost like a sheet of glass (much more incredible in-person than you can see (or touch / feel) in the photos). And besides how incredible it looks - it will also protect your investment for the decades ahead. This Parzinger console table / chest of drawer / small writing desk is an ideal example for the most discriminating interior designer client or collector. This french polish and gold leaf console table by Tommi Parzinger for Charak Modern would work great in an Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Post-Modern or Mid-Century Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern, Danish Modern or Zen / Minimalist room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, or Classical room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 36" x W 31.25" x D 11" CONDITION: Newly restored in a gorgeous french polish with gold leaf drawer front. Some light signs of age still apparent under the refinish as to be expected with an item of this age. Beautiful and ready for immediate use in a high end luxury interior.

  • 'Generation' Bronze Sculpture Table by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, c. 1964 Signed
    By Philip and Kelvin LaVerne
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
This important and documented bronze sculpture table named "Generation" by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne was sculpted circa 1964 and was featured on the cover of “Philip & Kelvin LaVerne: Sculpture III". Its large size allows this to be used as a coffee or cocktail table, console table or display table or can be simply displayed as sculptural fine art. This pièce de résistance for collectors of Philip and Kelvin LaVerne is exceptionally rare and highly coveted. Within one single work of functional fine art the artists explored several different techniques the LaVernes were known to employ. Two heavy cast bronze figures, a boy holding a cat and the opposite side a girl, holding the table top which features a gorgeous torched bronze surface with inlaid colorful enamels, one bearing the LaVernes signature. Another acid washed bronze...
