Vintage French Jansen Style Brushed Steel and Brass Glass Top Demilune Console

About the Item

Decorate a living room or den with this elegant demi-lune console table. Created in Paris, France, circa 1980 and attributed to Maison Jansen, the brushed steel and brass table stands on double scrolled legs decorated with acanthus leaves and ending with hoof feet; it is further embellished with a bottom stretcher dressed with a brass cone finial. The surface is dressed with a inset shaped beveled glass top. The narrow console is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich brushed steel finish with brass mounts accents. Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior decoration office founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, serving clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Within ten years the firm had become a major purchaser of French and European antiques, and by 1890 had established an antique gallery as a separate firm that acquired and sold antiques to Jansen's clients and its competitors as well. By the early 1890s Maison Jansen had its own manufacturing capacity producing furniture of contemporary design, as well as reproductions, primarily in the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directoire, and Empire styles. Today, it is still regarded as one of the most notable firms and period furniture manufacturers in history, with its vintage floor lamps, tables, mirrors and other furnishings remaining in demand. This House was located at 23, rue de l' Annonciation, Paris, and closed in 1989. Measures: 44.5" W x 16.5" D x 30" H.
