18th Century Country French Writing Table ~ End Table

About the Item

18th Century Country French Writing Table ~ End Table was beautifully hand-crafted from solid indigenous walnut, and features amazing style rendered by capable rural artisans with what was considered then to be innovative techniques. The solid plank top and somewhat tailored aprons all around differ on the side with the drawer, where a relief carving featuring a Florentine-style fleur de lys has been carved surrounded by foliates. Each of the subtly scrolled legs was crafted from a single post of walnut, then carved with bold shell motifs on the shoulders, hoof feet and upturned acanthus plumes. Fastened to the apron with pegged mortise & tenon joinery, the craftsmen added a unique twist ~ a pivoting round drink holder that rotates out when needed, yet tucks back in to return the piece to its regular rectangular geometry. Such features make it a good choice for a two-person game table, a side table, and end table, or just about anything your imagination can conjure! Circa 1790s Measures 28.5H x 34W x 23D; knee clearance 23H.

Another tier of ogee trim in reverse appears under the carved edging, and that's just the surface!
