The iconic kidney shape first appeared as a writing desk or dressing table during the Louis XV period of 16th century France, evolved in the hands of English cabinet makers in the 18th century, and is now updated in a beautiful burl wood. Sought after for its decorative, twisted appearance, burl wood arises from overgrown knots and outgrowths found within a tree's roots or trunk, resulting in captivating variations alternative to grain.
