Colonial Haagse School Desk with Stool, Indonesia, 1930

About the Item

A colonial style desk / dressing table designed by Toko van der Pol in Java, Indonesia around 1930. The rectangular and asymmetrical shape of the desk is inspired by the New Hague School (1925-1940). Made of high quality teak wood in a nice brown colour, this modern styled piece has a truly eye-catching appeal! The desk has ebonized ornaments and the stool is upholstered with green ribcord. The piece has several shelves as well as a drawer and storage unit with door and drawer. All together, the unique appearance of the set will make it a fantastic addition to the decor! Provenance: Gallery Frans Leidelmeijer, the Netherlands It remains in good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.

    A colonial Amsterdam School dressing table, manufactured in the former Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, around 1920. This eye-catching piece is made of high quality wood in a nice warm brown colour. The centre of the piece holds a tall mirror in a nicely detailed frame. The cabinets on the side each have a single door and a drawer on the top. In the centre a long mirror in a scalloped frame, flanked by two cabinets, each with a single door and a drawer on top. The tops are made of black wood which also comes back in the details and handles. A fantastic find with a truly unique style, made with an exceptional eye for detail! It remains in very good, vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
