Large 6' 5" Wide Vintage Executive's Desk, Danish, Sibast Furniture, Circa 1970

About the Item

This is a large vintage executive's desk. A Danish, rosewood designer office table by Sibast Mobel to a possibly bespoke design, dating to the late 20th century, circa 1970. Sibast Mobel was founded by Helge Sibast (1908 - 1985) a Danish craftsman with an eye for mixing tradition and international influence. A creative designer, he was installed as the head of design and product development at the family company at the time of his father's passing. Collaborating with fellow designer Arne Vodder in the 1960s, the company had a lot of export success to the United States and later worked with other designers on special collections. Utterly striking, generously sized and possibly bespoke - a superb example of Danish design Displays a desirable aged patina and presented in original, sun-kissed finish Select stocks show exceptional figuring to wide desktop and three part base Excellent colour presents warm russet and caramel hues throughout Superior proportion to the desk top at 6' 5" wide, with a useful depth of 3' 2" Wide kneehole with a height of 68.5cm (27") affords comfortable use Shaped to fit the canted edge, the black skiver can be removed or positioned along the desk Decades of use in a well-lit room shows sun ageing in the position of the skiver Unmarked as such, but likely the work of Arne Vodder, Sibast's resident designer of the period Fascinating and unusual, the base design extant from contemporary desks by Sibast The aesthetic possibly influenced by the distinctive form of Frank Lloyd Wright's 'Taliesin' tables Unusual triangular shaped skiver pad further enhances the Taliesin look This is a highly distinctive, showpiece vintage executive's desk with a superb aesthetic appeal and of large proportion. Striking Danish design catches the eye with a fascinatingly shaped base and unusual, triangular skiver. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home or office.
