Regency Period Metamorphic Writing /Book Table

About the Item

This fine classical regency table shows all the signs of a London cabinet making firm. The proportions are great being not overly large but it carries weight and looks masculine and larger then in fact it is. The details throughout include fine reeding along the out swept legs, there is tight and well-formed bead lines setting up a great play of light along the recessed edges and the turning of the stretcher is fine and well done. Note please the fine brass casters and sabots and the brass mechanical slide for the raising of the table's top. Metamorphic tables are especially interesting as they served many functions and are especially difficult to execute without making them seem out of proportion for cabinet makers. This table can be used as a small witting table as well as a display space for art or as a book table and is adjustable to many heights and angles. The table retains its original finish but has been newly French polished
