About the Item

An absolutely fantastic antique English Victorian extending dining room table, Circa 1880 in date, with a set of twelve matching chairs, comprising ten chairs and a pair of armchairs. The table has been masterfully crafted in beautiful solid flame mahogany throughout and the finish and attention to detail on display are truly breathtaking. A wind out mechanism allows one to extend the table to different lengths, the details of which are listed below. It has four original leaves which can be added as required. Transform the fine dining experience in your home with this dining table fit for a king. The matching Victorian style chairs are hand carved solid mahogany and feature an attractive balloon back design, they are upholstered in the finest fabric. 18th century furniture designer, Thomas Sheraton, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easil y, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."
