Coffee and Dining Table in Rosewood, Martin Eisler, Brazilian Midcentury, 1950s
About the Item
Martin Eisler created this original table in the 1950s to take advantage of space, assuming two positions: in the normal position, it serves as a dining table for up to six people; in the second position, it gains a very different aspect, due to the mobility of its legs, it becomes a tea table.
The table presents mechanisms that allow its legs to be pulled for the center, serving as support for the top in a completely different way. All structure is made of Brazilian Rosewood.
This piece was manufactured by Moveis Artesanal, a pioneer company in uniting interior designs and furniture production in series founded by Carlo Hauner. He soon joined Martin Eisler and Ernesto Wolf. The company, formerly called Pau Brasil, was owned by Lina Bo Bardi and her husband, Pietro Maria Bardi. After the acquisition by Hauner, Eisler and Wolf became part of the company, with Sergio Rodrigues in the interior design department and Georgia Hauner as a set designer for the store and store windows, bringing a lot of innovations for the furniture sector at the time.
The table has variable dimensions:
Dining: H 28.86 in. x W 59.06 in. x D 27.56 in. / H 73.3 cm x W 150 cm x D 70 cm
Tea: H 14.18 in. x W 59.06 in. x D 27.56 in. / H 36 cm x 150 cm x 70 cm.
