About the Item

This is a French 19th century farm table made with walnut and oak. The top has a beautiful patina and sits over a plain apron which rests on turned legs. The piece has been cleaned and polished with a French paste wax. Circa 1870.

A 19th century French vintner’s wine tasting table handcrafted in France circa 1860. A specialized folding tilt-top table that was used at vineyards and wineries across Europe, providing a place to taste their different vintages. Vendange (grape harvest) tables have a tilting ability so they may be stored in narrow corridors found in wine cellars when not in use. The underside of the table houses a mechanism for bracing the top. The table is nicely raised and supported by its trestle base and thick carved legs.
